Mission
HorizonMinds is a non-profit 501 c(3)
organization dedicated to providing Cultural
Enrichment and Educational Programs and Services that
focus specifically on Character Education, Student's
Academic Deficits, and Cultural Enrichment. HorizonMinds
encourage people of low income and poverty status to reclaim
their glorious past, rekindle their inner spirit, and reconnect
with their great legacy.
We focus on the skills and strengths
of a child rather than the deficits and problems. Our approach
is based on a realistic assessment of every child and family.
We recognize the challenges in our work and the impossibility
of changing past experiences. As a child approaches adolescence,
the treatment needs to take advantage of the healthy part of their
development. It is our philosophy to work with the normal
motivational drives of independence and socialization. It is
our opportunity to teach transferable skills that lead to
improved success at school, on the job, in the community,
and in the family, by linking learning to life.
We serve more than just the child.
Ours is a holistic approach. This includes
working with and supporting the family, teachers,
school counselors, coaches and other professionals.
We believe individuals grow through successful experiences,
the acquisition of skills and accomplishment of goals. By involving all those significant to the child, by Educating, Motivating, Empowering, Inspiring, and Enlightening we will Liberate our children's
minds and will greatly enhance the child's ability to succeed!
Phylosophy
Think - Learn - Grow - Connect! We believe in teaching every child the 3C's - care, concern and connection. Create a learning environment that fosters children to be children and allow them to learn and grow in their own unique way. We believe in allowing students that opportunity to find the joy of learning and discover how knowledge can change their world.
